Sorry everyone, this one slipped through the cracks.
In case you missed it, Senator McCain made a “mistake” saying that Iranians are training Al Qaeda. However, Al Qaeda is largely Sunni while the Iran government is mostly Shi’ite. Very simply, these two groups don’t get along particularly well.
Fox News, the rock of unbiased journalism that it is, indicated that it was a minor slip-up, saying that the Senator “immediately corrected himself” after Connecticut Senator Joseph Lieberman whispered the mistake in his ear.
The only problem is that Mr. McCain did NOT immediately correct himself. Not only that, but he expounded on the point that Al Qaeda is going into Iran for training and then coming back into Iraq, and that “Al Qaeda is on the run but…not defeated.” See below the raw footage of the error from while he was in Jordan.
This wasn’t just Senator McCain making a mistake. This is a play right out of the Bush administration’s playbook. It’s about muddying the issue and scaring up votes by making conjectures that are portrayed as facts but that simply aren’t accurate. Remember weapons of mass destruction in Iraq? Remember Axis of Evil?
Okay, fine, let’s say that it is a mistake. It’s still a mistake he continues to make. Even today he made the mistake during the senate committee hearing with General David Petraeus. Wasn’t this supposed to be the candidate of foreign policy experience?

Do you find it disturbing how hard it is to find information about the war? How it’s buried under entertainment headlines and other sensational news? There are so many soldiers that we lose that don’t make the papers while the gov’t assures us that violence is down and we’re making advances… sorry, just my rants… – Claire
